For the Father’s Day Backpack Outreach in June, our church collected over 60 backpacks. The goal was 50! Praise the Lord! Some backpacks were donated filled with essential items, socks, treats, and a greeting card containing gift cards or cash. A total of $255 was given out in gift cards and cash.

The backpacks were given out at Reutter Park. The men were grateful for backpacks—some of them were blessed to receive a backpack so they don’t have to drag their belongings around in plastic bags. Several men were surprised to see that the backpacks were filled with all kinds of needed items. The man in the second picture sat by the backpacks for an hour waiting patiently to pick a backpack.

Our next outreach was held at Logan Square. The couple in the photo above (both in their late 80s) received a filled backpack. He was so happy to receive our last backpack.

At this outreach in June, Snowrene Mitchell (pictured above) brought 300 cartons of eggs, 4 cases of bananas, breads, bagels and pastries from the Community Service Center.  All the food was gone in less than half an hour!  It was a rainy and windy day, but that did not stop the community from coming. Praise the Lord for our team in the last picture, especially our two young fellows, Josh and Blake, for keeping all the items and volunteers dry under the tent.
