by Paul Jacokes

In the mid 1990’s, I went to college and accumulated some very heavy debt. Those “free” pizzas to sign up for a credit card seemed like a good deal at the time. Credit card debt in addition to student loans made what should have been an exciting time a bit scary as it was getting time to pay the piper. Having a total debt out of college, not counting a mortgage, that just about equaled my annual salary was stressful to say the least.

I finally came to the realization that debt was not my friend. What Solomon said in Proverbs 22:7 that the borrower is slave to the lender not only is true, but I got sick and tired of living under constant stress and having a significant piece of my paycheck going to the bank. I said enough is enough!

Shortly after that crucible moment, one day I came across this guy on the radio named Dave Ramsey. Wow! I had already made the decision that I was done with debt, and then the Lord sends me the simple-to-follow plan to do just that and so much more!

Starting in March I’ll be sharing what I’ve learned through Dave Ramsey’s Financial Peace University. I want each and every one of you to enjoy success not only in your finances, but in your relationships, your career, and most importantly, your walk with God.

Please join me starting Monday, March 14, at 6:30 p.m. in the church library to begin our 9-week journey through Financial Peace University to learn God’s way of managing your money and to experience the peace the Lord has planned for you.
