Lansing, MI — The Lansing Seventh-day Adventist Church Community Services Center (CSC) once again opened its doors to the local community for its annual Back to School giveaway. The event, which took place Wednesday, August 30th, saw an impressive turnout of 150-200 people and was a resounding success.
The CSC, sponsored by the Lansing Seventh-day Adventist Church, gave away over 500 school supplies, including notebooks, crayons, pencils, and paper. In addition to the school supplies, volunteers also provided free haircuts, ensuring that local children are not only well-equipped but also well-groomed for the upcoming school year.
Snowrene, the co-head of the CSC, expressed her gratitude for the support provided by the church and the 18 volunteers who participated. “We are so grateful for the incredible support from our church community. It’s heartwarming to see the love and care that goes into making this event a success year after year,” she said.
The atmosphere was cheerful and welcoming, with two canopies set up outside the CSC. One canopy offered food, which was so popular that it ran out of hot dogs and ice cream. The other canopy provided simple health check-ups, adding an extra layer of community care to the event.
The event was promoted through the church’s Facebook page and by word of mouth, drawing a crowd that clearly appreciates the CSC’s ongoing efforts. “The community loves coming here,” Snowrene added, “and we love having them.”
While this year’s event faced no significant challenges, there are plans to possibly move the giveaway to a Sunday in the future to allow for even greater community participation.
The annual Back to School giveaway is just one of the many community outreach programs offered by the Lansing Seventh-day Adventist Church. With the continued support of its members and the local community, the CSC looks forward to expanding its services and reaching even more people in the years to come.
