The Tent, a collaboration between Lansing Family and Lifestyle Medicine and the Lansing Seventh-day Adventist Church, will provide free lifestyle medicine services to the community of Lansing beginning Monday, October 2, and continuing throughout the month of October.

Dr. Kimberly Azelton, a physician at Lansing Family and Lifestyle Medicine, explains that the Tent is not just a seminar “but a hands-on experience,” aimed at treating the whole person.

The Tent’s services include free physician consults, fitness consults, health assessments, water therapy and chair massage. Patients can choose to add on blood work for an at-cost fee of $10. Cooking coaches are also available to assist those who wish to learn healthful cooking. There is an at-cost fee of $30 to cover the price of food ingredients. If needed, limited scholarships are available to subsidize the cost of blood work and cooking coaches.

Dr. Jonathan Sharley, another physician at Lansing Family and Lifestyle Medicine, says, “Lifestyle medicine is exciting because it addresses the underlying root causes of chronic diseases such as diabetes, high blood pressure, depression and anxiety, instead of merely managing the symptoms. I long to see each individual living life to the fullest. That is what the Tent is all about.”

In addition to health-related services, the Tent offers “Home” services. For those who could use some extra help with a project around the house, the Tent is organizing teams of volunteers who are eager to spread kindness through free yard work, cleaning, simple auto repair, plumbing, and more. Though there are some projects that will be beyond the Tent’s capacity to accomplish, their teams plan to meet as many needs as they are able.

Finally, the Tent is proud to offer “Heart” services, which Pastor Juan Carlos Grajales of the Lansing Seventh-day Adventist Church refers to as “help along your spiritual journey.” A pastor or chaplain will be on site to assist with the community’s spiritual needs.

“We are so excited to offer these services to the community for the entire month of October,” Azelton says. “The Tent will focus on a different service each week, so come opening night to see the schedule.” Interested individuals can sign up at lansingadventist.org/thetent/. Registration will also be available on-site.

The Tent is being operated in conjunction with the Discovering Revelation prophecy seminar presented by Pastor Phil Mills at the Lansing Seventh-day Adventist Church and will be open before and after the seminar, from 6:00 to 6:30 p.m. and from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. In addition to the opening night, the Tent will be open every Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday evening in October. The Tent is located at 5400 W. Saint Joe Hwy, Lansing, MI 48917.
